Photographer Highlight: Rachel Barboza
“I’ve been shooting for eight years. Consistently for six. I hope to be doing this until I’m old and gray.”
Studio Elevn: When did you find your passion for photography?
Rachel: It started in a deep depression. It’s kind of spiritual but I begged for help and I saw something about a photography festival. “New York Photography Week” I signed up for it and it was actually the next day. I watched videos of famous photographers and was learning about light and shaping. I was really excited so the next day I tried it and I was obsessed. I was at the worst and best part of my life within a weekend.
Studio Elevn: What do you enjoy most about taking photos?
Rachel: Fashion and Beauty but I try to keep an open mind. In the beginning I was super stubborn but since then I’ve had to dabble in different things like lifestyle and athletic. It’s a creative process of lighting and posing and the composition of the camera.
Studio Elevn: Why did you choose Studio Elevn for you photoshoot?
Rachel: My makeup artist found it originally. I met her at Nordstrom at the very beginning of my career. Ever since then there’s been such good vibes, I’ve been able to do strobes or natural lighting. It was such good diversity in what I could do. Nowadays, my client found Studio Elevn and as soon as they recommended it I said “Please, please, please.” and now we shoot here every time. I felt like I was coming home.
